hoppas att det är sant,och att det inte är ett trick ifrån media igen.

Nikki Finke må ha rejält underliga tankegångar ibland men hon är inte traditionell media -- fuck, hon fick ju sparken från en tidning eftersom hon som nöjesreporter i LA skrev negativt om Disney. Dessutom har hon haft skrämmande mycket rätt om strejken än så länge.

Strejken.... ännu närmare över? Nu har producenterna tydligen kommit med en deal.

The Association of Motion Picture and Television Producers on Thursday presented a "New Economic Partnership" to the WGA, which according to a statement from the AMPTP "includes groundbreaking moves in several areas of new media, including streaming, content made for new media and programming delivered over digital broadcast channels." Dollars- and cents-wise, the AMPTP says, "The entire value of the [deal] will deliver more than $130 million in additional compensation above and beyond the more than $1.3 billion writers already receive each year."

The WGA has asked for time to study the proposals, and talks are scheduled to resume on Tuesday, December 4.

Says the AMPTP, "We continue to believe that there is common ground to be found between the two sides, and that our proposal for a New Economic Partnership offers the best chance to find it."

Turns out their exciting, groundbreaking proposal is... a residual rollback. And not just any rollback, one of the biggest in the history of the Guild. Then, stunningly, the companies have the balls to say their plan gives us more compensation. Well, I'm sorry, but If you take away a dollar and give me a nickel, the nickel ain't a raise. Somewhere, Nick Counter's first-grade math teacher is embarrassed.

So we decided to do some math of our own: We broke out the cost of the WGA's current proposal to the conglomerates into yearly figures. We found that the TOTAL payment yearly -- the total that ALL the companies would make under our proposals -- is $50.54 million. And that, we realized, is about one-third the budget of TRANSFORMERS. We are asking IN TOTAL, for the equivalent of the cost overrun on a summer event movie.

Instead of agreeing that that is a fair and just offer, they've proposed this:

When an hourlong episode of television is streamed on the Internet, writers would get a flat $250 payment for one year of reuse. That's $250 as opposed to, for example, $20,000 per episode when it's reused on network television. They proposed nothing new on downloads, it's still the DVD formula for those (ie. two-thirds of a penny for an iTunes download). For theatrical movies, they're offering exactly $0.00 on streaming. Oh, and they want to be able to define any content they like as "promotional" -- for which they would pay zero dollars. Even if they stream an entire film or tv episode, and even if they sell ads on it, they can call that promotional and pay us nothing.

THE AMPTP claims their deal is worth $130 million over three years. But what they don't mention is how much we'd lose under their proposal. As all media distribution transitions to the Internet before our eyes, their proposal takes away far, far more revenue than it provides.

A bold, new relationship? Sure, an abusive one.

One of the rumors that was flying early on in the strike was that writers had been hired to finish some scripts for Moonlight. Since there have been so many crazy rumors, I just added it to the crazy rumor pile and moved on.

But it turns out that they're still shooting. Despite the fact that, when the strike began, they had exactly one script left to shoot and they had already started filming that one. So there were producer/writers picketing outside their own show yesterday.

According to another (I'm assuming different) writer on the show, they started shooting the last completed script on November 2.

Joss sätter sin sexiga tumme på någonting som jag känner att jag borde tänkt på tidigare, att vi lever i en tid av fantastisk förändring på hela det här området, och även om strejken skulle innebära slutet för våra favoritserier, innebär den inte slutet för författarna.

Jag skiter i om The Shields allra sista avsnitt inte blir så överjävligt bra som det borde, jag känner mig inte ens orolig längre, för det här är större och viktigare, och orden från Joss - dom där avslutande orden som du citerar, Kalle - fyller mig med en fantastisk känsla av en framtid full av möjligheter.

Meanwhile there are rumors that CBS is looking at unproduced movie scripts in hopes of turning them into pilots. This is the equivalent of Charlie Chaplin boiling his shoe while starving in the Yukon. See, the strike has already killed this season of TV, but it's just getting long enough now to kill next season as well, since we're heading into pilot season. Setting aside the massive economic effects the canceling of pilot season will have on LA (it's the time of year when every waiter actually gets an acting job for a couple of days), the canceling of pilot season means no new shows next year. And since a huge number of this year's shows are getting or have gotten canned, that leaves a gaping hole for the networks.

Variety is reporting that CBS entertainment prez Nina Tassler has been quietly asking producers to bring her old movie scripts that can be cut up and used for pilots. That's actually how ER got its start, so it isn't the most unheard of thing in the world, although I don't know how taking an existing script and cutting it to pieces and changing things so a two hour story fits in one is anything but writing.

Ett av skälen är riktigt kul i sin idioti.

Their proposal for Internet compensation could actually cost producers more than they receive in revenues, thereby dooming the Internet media business before it ever gets started.

De vill ha vad, två komma något procent av vinsten? Ja, det är mer än 100%, om man är en inavlad idiot som inte kan knyta skosnörena ens med hemhjälp och en instruktionsvideo.
