Vi säger så.

För att säga något mer om avsnittet. Cordy/Xander fungerar på väldigt många nivåer. Hatkärlek när det är som bäst.

CORDELIA: You know what? I'm going. I'd rather be worm food than look at *your* pathetic face!

XANDER: Then go! I'm not stopping ya!

CORDELIA: I bet you wouldn't! I bet you'd let a girl go off to her doom all by herself!

XANDER: Not just any girl. You're special.

Följt av musiken du pratar om noike. It's a classic.

Bless his soul, the good lad.

Okej.

Kendra: "She died?"
Buffy: "Just a little."

... är ett rätt underbart litet utbyte också.

Inläggav Mr Chase » sön mar 14, 2004 15:11

Mr Chase stryker under:

21. What's my line, part 1

This is the first of many two-parters in the second season, and it is an excellent one. It is career week in Sunnydale and the Slayerettes are all full of angst. Buffy realizes that she can't pay the future bills killing vampires, but what is she going to do (law enforcement doesn't seem appealing for some reason; personally I think she'd make a great private eye, if she survives high school and college that is)?

And Xander gets slated, to the mirth of Cordelia, as a correctional officer. Willow is tagged by Bill Gates agents, as is Oz (they get to see each other for the first time but don't say much; come on, get to it sometime!). Cordelia gets listed as personal shopper or motivational speaker to which Xander retorts: "Motivational speaker? On what? Ten ways to a more annoying you?" Oh, but you sure like her annoyingness, admit it!

The gang filling out the career forms are a good illustration of young people's insecurities as far as what their futures are concerned. I can so relate to that as I can to Xander not trusting the statistics of it. I'm with Mark Twain on statistics. Besides human desires and actions just cannot be computed satisfactory.

Xander: "'Are you a people person, or do you prefer keeping your own company?' Well, what if I'm a people person who keeps his own company by default?"
Buffy: "So, mark 'none of the above'."
Xander: "Well, there are no boxes for 'none of the above'. That would introduce too many variables into their mushroom head, number-crunching little world."

But their ponderings are interrupted when Spike sends the fearsome Order of Taraka on Buffy. He wants to distract her so that he can finish a cure for Drusilla's illness (no, not her obvious mental illness, her physical ailment). The Tarakans are bounty hunters with "no earthly desires" and will not stop until the job is done.

Still, Buffy takes the time off to go ice-skating with Angel. Boy, SMG looks so good on skates, she should have melted the ice. Mmmm. Sorry, got a bit distracted there but who can resist a pretty girl on ice? The scene where she kisses the vamped face of Angel is very touching, as is their earlier scene in Buffy's bedroom, with Mr Gordo (her stuffed pig), her climbing in through the window by force of habit even when her mother is out of town and all. And Buffy calling him her "cradle-robbing, creature-of-the-night boyfriend" was hilarious. I'm getting to accept the Angel character more and more. But we also get a glimpse of how really menacing he can be when he bends information from Willy the barkeeper. How bad wasn't Angelus in his heyday?

Spoiler s2 "Innocence" onwards
(Stay tuned, people!)
The biggest surprise here is that there is another slayer who has come to Sunnydale, Kendra with no surname (that's so eightish). She was probably called to action when Buffy was dead, if ever so briefly. This begs some questions which as far as I know has never been satisfactory explained. If there is supposed to be only one slayer at a given time, how are the potentials drafted? And are they trained before, just in case? That was obviously not so with Buffy (in the movie). Who decides the succession? And if there are vampires all over the world, wouldn't it be more convenient to have a lot of slayers scattered around?

I never really liked the Kendra character and I think it wasn't just her *extremely* annoying accent. And when I read that the actress originally had been selected to play the role of Cordelia I thought WTF! No offence to her abilities, but I can hardly see her as the Queen C bitca we've all come to love (and hate). She pretty I suppose, but she isn't Charisma Carpenter (*big sigh*).

Speaking of Cordelia, there is a set up here to the next episode when she and Xander gets trapped in Buffy's house with the bounty-hunting bug man. For all her complaints she can't keep away from what Xander now officially dubs "the Scooby Gang". After all, she did give him a ride even if it was early in the morning. Great bickering between them as usual, even if they did it more or less by habit. This is going to get *very* interesting.

Cordelia: "I can't even believe you. You dragged me out of bed for a ride? What am I, mass transportation?"
Xander: "That's what a lot of the guys say, but it's just locker room talk. I wouldn't pay it any mind."
Cordelia: "Oh, great, so now I'm your taxi and your punching bag."
Xander: "I like to think of you more as my witless foil, but have it your way."

The pace in this episode was slower than normal but it worked fine. It delved more into our favourite characters and it is after all a set-up for part two.
Rupert Giles: "I'll be back in the Middle Ages."
Miss Calendar: "Did you ever leave?"

Mr Chase fortsätter att understryka:

22. What's my line, part 2

My, oh my, the set-up is great but the payoff is outstanding. Buffy and the gang gets to meet the second slayer Kendra, still with that obnoxious accent. As everyone guessed she was called to duty when Buffy went dead, even if it was only for a couple of minutes. And what a different slayer she is. Granted, I have never really been that fond of the Kendra character, but her being a so very different, unimaginative, by-the-book (in more ways than one) slayer than Buffy made for a good contrast. Buffy was right, in a catfight she would win against Kendra in the end.

If Buffy thinks she has no life, look at poor Kendra, no family, no friends, just duty (not that I'm not a big fan of duty, but that's not everything). Kendra has to adapt though, even to the admittedly strange concept, especially for a slayer, of a good vampire.

Kendra and Giles to seem to get along fine together, sharing bookish knowledge and everything he hasn't been sharing with Buffy. There's even a handbook
Willow: "There's a Slayer handbook?"
Buffy: "Wait. Handbook? What handbook? How come I don't have a handbook?"
Willow: "Is there a T-shirt, too? 'Cause that would be cool..." LOL.

But I don't think Buffy has to worry. Giles is very much a one-slayer-watcher, as someone called it, and he's not going anywhere. But it is interesting that Buffy contemplates what it would be like if she just got away from it all and left the slayage to Kendra.

The most horrid scene was when Drusilla tortured the captive Angel, and with holy water no less! She really has a twisted mind but then it is somewhat only fitting that it is the guy responsible for her going crazy that is on the receiving end. Nice touch though by Angel to try to make Spike jealous by referring to the shared past he has with Dru. Exactly what was their relationship after he "sired" her anyway? Intriguing minds want to know! And Dru looked good in her nighties.

Buffy: "I've had it. Spike is going down. You can attack me, you can send assassins after me -- that's fine. But nobody messes with my boyfriend." Buffy gets so protective about Angel and doesn't hesitate a minute to go and save him. Well, it's not all selfish of course, since his death would lead to the full restoration of Drusilla’s physical health and the eventual doom of Sunnydale. We'll see about that, since in the end it is a much stronger Dru that pulls a very injured Spike from the rubble.

OK, you know I had to mention it. Xander and Cordelia, sitting in the basement, k-i-s-s-i-n-g! Queue cheesy music and all. Absolutely beautiful. We all know about their relationship now but the very first time I saw it it just whacked me in the head. I really hadn't paid as much attention as I should have, or thought that I had. Now of course you can see all the little signs and hints that has been scattered around in episodes preceding this one. So when the unresolved sexual tension (or UST as it is abbreviated; Jeez, I only just learned that there is an abbreviation for this! The Internet sure is a strange world) becomes a bit more resolved it's not that big of a surprise, at least not for the attentive viewer. But it obviously was a big surprise for poor Xander and Cordelia.

Oh boy, are they in for a strange ride. Buckle up, people, it's going to be bumpy! It is like looking with morbid fascination at a high speed car crash in slow-motion. You just know that there is going to be so much trouble ahead, but it is great fun to watch

Spoiler s3 "Lover's Walk" onwards
(well, except in the end, which I am *not* particularly happy about, but that's for another review).
And the look on their faces after having done the smoochies is priceless: "We *so* need to get outta here" is spot on. You can try to run, kiddos, but you can't hide! Even if they might have let that first kiss slide their fate was pretty much sealed after the second one. And look how meek Cordy looks in the library after escaping from the bug guy and the first kiss. Even her insults are meek.
Cordelia: "Shut up dorkhead!"
Xander: "Dorkhead? You slash me with your words!"
In case you haven't figured it out yet, those two are my absolutely favourite couple in all of Buffyverse.
Bad, bad Joss for breaking them up eventually!
I wonder if Willow suspects anything. She looks amusingly at them while they bicker. But I guess she's a lot of other things on her mind. She's seeing Oz and aren't they cute, animal cracker jokes and everything. Maybe they are a bit too cute for my taste. They seem to be heading in the nauseatingly, involuntary-vomiting kind of cuteness that even I, a bit fan of cute, at times find is a tad bit too much. We'll see. But at least she has a love interest of her own so she doesn't have to go moping after Xander (he's taken now, you hear me!). And Oz literally did take a bullet for her, you have to give him credit for that. And he seems normal.

Spoiler s2 "Phases"
(just you wait...*snicker*)
Interesting info: Sunnydale has 43 churches. That's much for what was once referred to as a one Starbuck's town. It even has an airport, and a harbour as we will see, and a college. But just one Bronze? How big is this town anyway?

Lastly, where can I get the t-shirt?

"What´s my line" Del 1 och 2.

Willow: "There's a Slayer handbook?"
Buffy: "Wait. Handbook? What handbook? How come I don't have a handbook?"
Willow: "Is there a T-shirt, too? 'Cause that would be cool..."
