"It's not a lab show. You don't have people saying, 'Let's flush this with five cc's of dexothorpan.' This is about unexpected turns the human mind can take. Each character has personal and ethical limits, except Web. Just when you think he has rendered himself completely corrupt, it turns out he's ahead of everybody."
During the summer, you'd think the networks would try something new. Instead, we get endless reality retreads, and in one of the few new scripted network dramas, Fox's The Inside (Wednesdays, 9 pm/ET), we're treated to yet another procedural crime drama, only uglier than usual. Rachel Nichols is a find as the beautiful, troubled Rebecca Locke, a rookie agent assigned to the FBI's Violent Crimes Unit. Her tortured past (a childhood kidnapping) makes her unusually intuitive and receptive to chasing creepy psychos, but the show too often mistakes sordidness and gore for actual suspense. When it comes to The Inside, I want out.
