Mr Chase fortsätter att understryka:
22. What's my line, part 2
My, oh my, the set-up is great but the payoff is outstanding. Buffy and the gang gets to meet the second slayer Kendra, still with that obnoxious accent. As everyone guessed she was called to duty when Buffy went dead, even if it was only for a couple of minutes. And what a different slayer she is. Granted, I have never really been that fond of the Kendra character, but her being a so very different, unimaginative, by-the-book (in more ways than one) slayer than Buffy made for a good contrast. Buffy was right, in a catfight she would win against Kendra in the end.
If Buffy thinks she has no life, look at poor Kendra, no family, no friends, just duty (not that I'm not a big fan of duty, but that's not everything). Kendra has to adapt though, even to the admittedly strange concept, especially for a slayer, of a good vampire.
Kendra and Giles to seem to get along fine together, sharing bookish knowledge and everything he hasn't been sharing with Buffy. There's even a handbook
Willow: "There's a Slayer handbook?"
Buffy: "Wait. Handbook? What handbook? How come I don't have a handbook?"
Willow: "Is there a T-shirt, too? 'Cause that would be cool..." LOL.
But I don't think Buffy has to worry. Giles is very much a one-slayer-watcher, as someone called it, and he's not going anywhere. But it is interesting that Buffy contemplates what it would be like if she just got away from it all and left the slayage to Kendra.
The most horrid scene was when Drusilla tortured the captive Angel, and with holy water no less! She really has a twisted mind but then it is somewhat only fitting that it is the guy responsible for her going crazy that is on the receiving end. Nice touch though by Angel to try to make Spike jealous by referring to the shared past he has with Dru. Exactly what was their relationship after he "sired" her anyway? Intriguing minds want to know! And Dru looked good in her nighties.
Buffy: "I've had it. Spike is going down. You can attack me, you can send assassins after me -- that's fine. But nobody messes with my boyfriend." Buffy gets so protective about Angel and doesn't hesitate a minute to go and save him. Well, it's not all selfish of course, since his death would lead to the full restoration of Drusilla’s physical health and the eventual doom of Sunnydale. We'll see about that, since in the end it is a much stronger Dru that pulls a very injured Spike from the rubble.
OK, you know I had to mention it. Xander and Cordelia, sitting in the basement, k-i-s-s-i-n-g! Queue cheesy music and all. Absolutely beautiful. We all know about their relationship now but the very first time I saw it it just whacked me in the head. I really hadn't paid as much attention as I should have, or thought that I had. Now of course you can see all the little signs and hints that has been scattered around in episodes preceding this one. So when the unresolved sexual tension (or UST as it is abbreviated; Jeez, I only just learned that there is an abbreviation for this! The Internet sure is a strange world) becomes a bit more resolved it's not that big of a surprise, at least not for the attentive viewer. But it obviously was a big surprise for poor Xander and Cordelia.
Oh boy, are they in for a strange ride. Buckle up, people, it's going to be bumpy! It is like looking with morbid fascination at a high speed car crash in slow-motion. You just know that there is going to be so much trouble ahead, but it is great fun to watch
Spoiler s3 "Lover's Walk" onwards
(well, except in the end, which I am *not* particularly happy about, but that's for another review).
And the look on their faces after having done the smoochies is priceless: "We *so* need to get outta here" is spot on. You can try to run, kiddos, but you can't hide! Even if they might have let that first kiss slide their fate was pretty much sealed after the second one. And look how meek Cordy looks in the library after escaping from the bug guy and the first kiss. Even her insults are meek.
Cordelia: "Shut up dorkhead!"
Xander: "Dorkhead? You slash me with your words!"
In case you haven't figured it out yet, those two are my absolutely favourite couple in all of Buffyverse.
Bad, bad Joss for breaking them up eventually!
I wonder if Willow suspects anything. She looks amusingly at them while they bicker. But I guess she's a lot of other things on her mind. She's seeing Oz and aren't they cute, animal cracker jokes and everything. Maybe they are a bit too cute for my taste. They seem to be heading in the nauseatingly, involuntary-vomiting kind of cuteness that even I, a bit fan of cute, at times find is a tad bit too much. We'll see. But at least she has a love interest of her own so she doesn't have to go moping after Xander (he's taken now, you hear me!). And Oz literally did take a bullet for her, you have to give him credit for that. And he seems normal.
Spoiler s2 "Phases"
(just you wait...*snicker*)
Interesting info: Sunnydale has 43 churches. That's much for what was once referred to as a one Starbuck's town. It even has an airport, and a harbour as we will see, and a college. But just one Bronze? How big is this town anyway?
Lastly, where can I get the t-shirt?
Rupert Giles: "I'll be back in the Middle Ages."
Miss Calendar: "Did you ever leave?"
